Jackie Davis 1980 Heemstede release on CD
The Dutch foundation Fonos offers a cool service. You can send your LP / vinyl to them and they will transfer it to CD and this for just 20 euros, this in a completely legal way. The clue is that normally your vinyl will stay with them, but if they already have a copy of what you want, than it is not nescarry to send the original LP. Because Fonos has already a copy of the Heemstede 1980 release you don't have to send anything!
There is however a BUT. This service is only for music which is not obtainable in the Ducth shops, other thing is that they are have to be from Dutch origin. You are also not allowed to copy the CD's you obtained from Fonos.nl.
What does this mean for us? The Jackie Davis 1980 Heemstede release is available through Fonos.nl. Payment can be done by CreditCard, only thing is that the website is in Ducth only and I am not sure if they send to foreign countries. Link to the www.fonos.nl website.

Info on Capitol Stereo Recordings
Most of Jackie Davis albums are released as mono and as stereo. Capitol used a very simple method: a mono release can be recognized by its order code. For example T-1517 means mono and ST-1517 stereo. Down here some additional info on Capitols steps on Stereo. Warner Brothers uses the same, for example Jackie Davis Plus Voices comes in mono and stereo. If mono it waill say W1515, if stereo is reads WS1515.

A note for audiophiles related to Hi-Fi Hammond 2
This album was recorded on an Ampex 300-2 two-track tape recorder, using a quarter-inch tape, with a flat frequency response of 20 to 15,000 cps. The recording was made using Capitol’s newly completed stereo console in Studio B, which made it possible for engineer Carson Taylor to add echo and equalization during recording, to produce a completed tape ready for disc mastering. A newly developed stereo echo system was used, which feeds both the right and left channels into the same echo chamber, which is divided in the center by a partition.

One speaker and one microphone are placed on each side of the partition, but a small amount of leakage is permitted around the partition. This leakage greatly improves the realistic sound of the original stereo signal being fed back to the console. Each side being fed to the echo chamber has it own equalization, frequency, and gain control, so that the echo can be varied in any manner, independently. The Hammnd Organ console was fed into two Leslie 22H speakers placed close together at a 45 degrees angle.

Two Telefunken 251-M condenser type microphones were placed close to the sound apex of the Leslie speakers, one about a foot from the floor for bass pickup and the other about three feet from the floor for the highs. The two microphones were fed to a combined volume control in the console so that the level on both cold be altered simultaneously with one dial. On the microphone picking up the high end of the Hammond, 10 dB of equalization was applied, packed at 5,000 cycles; and a small amount of bass equalization was added to the other mike picking up the bass.
The Drums (heard on the right in stereo) were picked up by two Sony C37A type microphones, which are noted for their fine separation pattern and are excellent fro recording percussion instruments. The cymbals, snare, tom-toms, and bass drum were picked up by an overhead Sony, and the afterbeat of the high-hat cymbals was miked by the other Sony directly under the edge of the cymbals. This method of placement provided excellent control between the downbeat and afterbeat of the drums and cymbals.
The piano, heard in two sections, was played by Jackie Davis after the original session, An RCA 44BX microphone was used to overdub the passages on the left channel.
The lacquer master was on a Scully lathe, using variable pitch control, with the Westrex 3C stereo disc recording channel. Mono masters were also cut on a Scully lathe, with a 2B cutting head.
Capitol pressings utilize the patented ‘T-Rim’, a device which employs a specially designed metal stamper mounted that causes the outside edge of the record to be a few thousandths of an inch thicker than the center. This allows one disc to drive another on a changer without playing surfaces actually touching adjacent discs. ‘T-Rim’ affords better record fill during pressing, and later helps to prevent disc warpage.
This record has been recorded and manufactured with all the meticulous care that quality records require, and represents the strictest adherence to the most exacting technical specifications and standards possible in the manufacture of phonograph records.
